Honorary Member 1973
John Lane, affectionately known as "Jack" by his friends, has been an ardent and dedicated duck hunter most of his life. He is a keen birder with a desire to do something for our feathered friends. In the 1960s, he organized a team of boys and erected bird houses for bluebirds. His efforts have dramatically returned the bluebird in appreciable numbers to Manitoba and earned him the title of "The Bluebird Man". He made another major contribution to ornithology by documenting his research on the Baird's Sparrow. For his work, Brandon University awarded him an honorary doctorate degree.
