Roy Simmons

Honorary Membership 1988

Roy, a native of Winnipeg, became interested in natural history early in life. He and his wife, Myrtle, have banded and kept extensive banding records on over 66,000 birds from their backyard in St. Vital. He has travelled to the high arctic to collect eggs from the rare Ross’s Goose and incubated and reared the chicks. He and Myrtle have promoted and developed wood duck nesting sites along the Seine River and have done extensive bird feeding for many years. Roy has also contributed much to wildlife art. He assisted with a diorama for Ducks Unlimited and has donated many paintings and carvings to various organizations including Wildlife Habitat Canada, the Northern Forest Owl Symposium and the MNS.
