Sam Waller

Honorary Membership 1974

Mr. Waller first gained recognition as a teacher in the Interlake, who harboured a treasure trove of natural history objects from near and far. An avid naturalist, he added firsts to both Ontario’s and Manitoba’s bird sightings, and co-authored “Birds of the St. Martin Lake Area”. It is for him that the “Waller’s Arctic Sulpher” butterfly is named. Moving to The Pas, he founded the Little Northern Museum, which he has worked ceaselessly to develop and expand, and which, in 1970, he presented to the people of The Pas.
