People passionate about nature

Mr. James Parker

Honorary Life Member 1968

Mr. Parker was born in Scotland, and came to the Gilbert Plains area when only six years old. He farmed there for many years. When he retired from farming, he took up photography and botany as hobbies, and is now recognized as one of the foremost flower photographers and amateur botanists in the province. He has contributed over 5,000 plant specimens to the University of Manitoba and the Museum of Man and Nature, as well as many slides and photographs. He has presently completed most of his part of a book, Flora of the Manitoba Escarpment, which will contain a history of the Duck Mountain area, and over 100 of his photographs.

Mr. Parker has addressed the Society on occasion, and is a regular contributor to photographic displays.
