2021 NM Award Recipients

A big congratulations to the 2021 Nature Manitoba award recipients! Thank you for your hard work and dedication!

Francy Wheadon - Service Award

Francy Wheadon stepped into the role of Communication Co-ordinator for the Grey Hares’ activities eight years ago. The Grey Hares membership has grown greatly over the years, and so has Francy’s work. She both recorded and chaired the semi-annual meetings and sent out reminders each week during the year of upcoming events. Francy even managed to keep the group organized from afar each year by sending e-mails from her winter getaway down south.
Francy stepped down from this position in February and we are pleased to recognize her years of dedication and hard work for the Grey Hares and Nature Manitoba with the Service Award.

Katrina Froese - President’s Award

In the past couple of years Katrina Froese stepped up and took on the leadership of the Mantario committee. She put together new safety and emergency procedures for the Mantario Cabin, including bringing in a SPOT device for emergency communications. Katrina co-ordinated  all Mantario bookings during the COVID-19 pandemic, including ensuring all COVID-19 guidelines were followed.  She organized and led working trips to do maintenance at the Mantario Cabin. Katrina also researched and wrote an in-depth history of the Mantario cabin for our newsletter series of articles this past year to celebrate our 100th anniversary.

I am pleased to recognize the special efforts of Katrina, especially this past year with the President’s Award.
